   MESSAGE FROM RECTOR

I am delighted to present the ASEAN Economic Research Institute (AERI) at the National University of Management. AERI is dedicated to advancing economic research and policy development across ASEAN member countries, with a particular focus on enhancing Cambodia's economic competitiveness.

AERI conducts research on economic strategies and policies of ASEAN member countries, enhances collaboration by building strong networks with policymakers, businesses, educational institutions, and NGOs to inform policies, and fosters knowledge sharing through workshops, seminars, and publications to disseminate research findings and promote a culture of knowledge sharing and innovation.

With the hard work and dedication of our management, faculty, staff, and students, we will foster a sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous society.

Our Mission

The ASEAN Economic Research Institute (AERI) was initiated by His Excellency Dr. Hang Chhuon Naron, Minister of Education Youth and Sport, to enhance economic research on ASEAN development issues. This initiative aligns with Cambodia assuming the Chair of ASEAN in 2022, under article 31 of the ASEAN Charter. The National University of Management (NUM) was assigned to establish AERI to support policy research focusing on economic issues and policy developments, particularly related to the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC)

Aims and Objectives

AERI's establishment reinforces NUM’s commitment to fostering research in economic strategy and policy. Initially driven by Cambodia’s ASEAN Chairmanship, the research will focus on the AEC Blueprint 2025 and its progression. The aims and objectives of AERI include:

  • Promoting research in areas consistent with the AEC Blueprint 2025 characteristics:
    • A Highly Integrated and Cohesive Economy
    • A Competitive, Innovative, and Dynamic ASEAN
    • Enhanced Connectivity and Sectoral Cooperation
    • A Resilient, Inclusive, People-Centered, and People-Oriented ASEAN
    • A Global ASEAN
  • Studying economic development strategies of ASEAN member countries to enhance Cambodia’s economic competitiveness.
  • Collaborating with policy makers, the business community, and NGOs to identify priorities as the AEC develops.
  • Encouraging cooperation with educational and regional organizations within ASEAN.
